Growing up I remember going thrifting with my mom. At first I hated it, I wanted NEW pieces and couldn’t ever find anything I liked. Then one day, at the age of 13, and well into my love affair with fashion, I found an authentic Prada bag at a thrift store and that started my love of thrifting. What I would give to still have that Prada Nylon bag now that it’s back in style! But through that I have loved to mix high and low price points to create amazing looks!
There is something so satisfying and thrilling in thrifting. The hunt to find a hidden gem, a vintage showstopper or finding inspiration in a unique piece is something that you can’t quiet duplicate while at the mall.
Here are some thrifting tips I have learned trough out the years to help you find the best treasures!
1. Know the discount days:
Most thrift stores have discount days. Some are based on department while others are based on tag color! Know these days and plan your trips accordingly.
2. Shop ALL departments:
This top I’m wearing in this outfit I from the men’s section! Shop in all areas of the store! The men’s section is great for oversized button ups, graphic tees, oversized blazers and so much more!
3. Go to thrift stores in affluent areas:
This is where you often find designer goodies!
4. Take your time:
Don’t rush a thrifting trip. Take your time, dig through the racks and get inspired!
5. If you like something BUY IT ASAP:
Don’t overthink it or come back for something later. Most of the time it will be gone before you know it!
